Cauterets - Thermalism - Maroquin signed BORIE (Jean-François de), Dr.. La Recherche des eaux Minérales de Cauterez (sic) avec la Manière d'en user. Pau, Dugué & Desbaratz, sd. (after 1740). In-16: 5f., 143pp. Blue morocco XIXesigned KRAFET, gilt title on spine, double gilt fillet on edges, inner gilt garland, gilt edges. A fine copy. Jacques Labarère tells us that this is a "very rare" first edition, published in Tarbes, of the oldest book (printed in 1714) on the mineral waters of Cauterets. This edition appears to be just as rare, albeit a little later (publication around 1740). Jean-François de Borie (1684-1747), physician in Pontacq, then in Pau after 1717. Physician at the waters of Cauterets, where he was appointed Intendant just before his death.
