Hydrography COULON (Louis) The Rivers of France, or a Geographical and Historical Description of the Course and Flow of the Rivers, Streams, Springs, Lakes, and Ponds That Water the Provinces of the Kingdom of France. Plum-colored leather, spine with ornate raised bands, restored joints, covers with double Duseuil-style rolled borders, gilt roll on the edges, replaced endpapers, gilt edges. A rare first edition of one of the earliest works devoted to the entirety of French hydrography. Description and history of all the rivers and streams of France, as well as the cities they flow through. The descriptions include numerous historical details spanning from antiquity to the 18th century. Volume I presents all waterways flowing into the Atlantic Ocean—Volume II, subtitled: The Rivers of France Flowing into the Mediterranean.
