EARLY 18th CENTURY ECOLE - Lot 49
EARLY 18th CENTURY ECOLE Rare heraldic painting probably showing the coat of arms of a Basque family Canvas. 78 x 62 cm. (Some retouching). Four coats of arms appear in a beautiful rocaille surround of foliage and flowers, topped by a knight's helmet. One of the quarters shows a bear crawling (standing) against a tree. This emblem is also found in the Basque region in the de Galarza family. It can be seen, along with the knight's helmet, on the stone coat of arms adorning Miguel Ochoa de Galarza's mansion (1601) in Urdiain (Navarre).
