Leather-bound with coat of arms - Lot 12
Leather-bound with coat of arms [ACCARIAS DE SERIONNE (Jacques)] The Interests of the Nations of Europe, as They Relate to Trade. Leiden, Luzac, 1766. 2 volumes, in-4. Light discoloration at the bottom of Volume I. Scattered small pinholes in places. Contemporary red morocco leather, decorated ribbed spine, black title and volume number labels, triple gilt fillets framing the covers with fleurons in the spandrels, central gilt coat of arms to be identified, double gilt fillets on the edges, gilded scrolls on the inside, blue endpapers, slight wear from use, gilt edges. First edition, the only one in quarto format. This work is of great interest for its precise and pragmatic approach to European—as well as American—economic activities. Accarias de Sérionne sets forth his critical theories regarding physiocracy and discusses the significance of the discovery of America, which, in his view, contributed to the growth of European industry; he also examines the various aspects of trade that foster peace among nations (Sabin, 79234).
