[CHASSAIGNON (Jean-Marie), Épiménide l'Inspiré] - Lot 38
[CHASSAIGNON (Jean-Marie), Épiménide l'Inspiré] Cataracts of the imagination, a deluge of scribomania, literary vomit, encyclopedic hemorrhage, monster of monsters. The Lair of Trophonius, in the Land of Visions, 1789. 4 volumes, in-8; illustrated with 2 frontispieces on bluish paper (the first at the beginning of Volume I, the second bound in the wrong place—inserted on page 205 of Volume IV). Contemporary paperback binding, soft old-pink dust jackets. A rare first edition of this literary oddity by Jean Marie Chassaignon, filled with follies and singular ideas. This eccentric figure, author of several anti-revolutionary works, was a true eccentric. In this work, the author unfolds his entire mystical-reformist philosophy and brings his indignation against the encyclopedists to a fever pitch.
