Militaria - Artillery BARDET de VILLENEUVE Traité de l'Artillerie, which teaches all that concerns gunpowder, cannons, mortars and pierriers, batteries, mines, artifices, weapons of all kinds, the works, paraphernalia and tools necessary for the service of artillery, or related to it, both at sea and on land, and the functions and duties of the officers of this corps. A total of 54 folding plates. Contemporary glazed marbled calf, spine ribbed and decorated, lack of leather on boards, gilt fillet on edges, red edges. Attached : GAUDI (Frédéric Guillaume de) : Essai de la Fortification de Campagne. Saarbrucken, vve Hofer, 1779. In-12: 12f, 136pp, (1); illustrated with a frontispiece and 39 folding plates in fine. Contemporary red morocco, spine ribbed and decorated, small garland on the boards, edges gilt. A good copy. First edition of this treatise which is part of the "Cours de la science militaire à l'usage de l'infanterie, de la cavalerie, de l'artillerie, du génie et de la marine", a collection published from 1740 to 1757 and written by Charles III's ordinary engineer, Bardet de Villeneuve. Decorated with an allegorical frontispiece by J. Besoet with a battlefield in the background and illustrated with 54 plates representing artillery weapons, tactical plans and a table of what is necessary to build a battery of cannon.
