DANCE RING Rare "kihi" dance ring worn on the finger during dances. Egret feathers (*Egretta sacra), human hair, coconut fiber, red cloth. Hiva Oa, Marquesas Islands, Polynesia, Oceania, 19th century. +/- 31 cm. (Old patina with visible chips and wear. An old nail is stuck through the base). Reported by Sergeant Henri JEANPIERRE, Infanterie de Marine, Chef de Poste at Fort de Tahuku (Tahauku) in 1886. *Egretta sacra IUCN status: LC (least concern).
