GRATELOUP (Jean-Baptiste de) Series of portraits engraved in intaglio by Jean-Baptiste de Garteloup; there are bust portraits of Descartes (1769, after Frans Hals), Fénelon (1767, after Vivien), J.J. Rousseau (1766, after Aved), Dryden (1765, after Kaeller), J.B. Bossuet half-legged in front, leaning on a book (1771, after Rigaud), J.B. Bossuet in bust (1769-70, after Rigaud), Young woman in bust in an oval, 7 engravings in intaglio format in-8, under passe-partout format in-4, some with more or less pronounced foxing. Set in a modern protective cardboard box. Works referenced in the Inventaire du fonds français des graveurs du XVIIIe siècle ; Catalogue de la collection des portraits français et étrangers : conservée au Département des estampes de la Bibliothèque nationale. Jean-Baptiste Grateloup (1735-1817) born and died in Dax. (Portalis-Beraldi - Les graveurs du XVIIe siècle, t. II, p. 349). Similar engravings are kept in the Petit Palais museum. Provenance: Le Quien de La Neuville Collection by descent. Sale in Saintes, 16 November 2018 (Geoffroy-Becquet).
