FRENCH ECOLE FIRST HALF OF THE 19th CENTURY Portrait of Hippolyte BIS (1789-1855) Oil on canvas. 74 x 60 cm Hippolyte BIS (1789-1855), French dramatist and librettist, had an honorable success thanks to the libretto of the opera Guillaume Tell by Rossini, co-written with Etienne de Jouy. He was made a knight of the Legion of Honour in 1834.
