Johann Peter KRAFFT (Hanau 1780-Vienna 1856) Portrait of Her Imperial Highness the Archduchess Marie Caroline Ferdinande of Austria (1801-1832) Rectangular canvas with oval view 56 x 44 cm. (Old restorations) Red wax stamps on reverse of stretcher and frame. Inscribed on the reverse of the frame "n° 137 Ritratto di S. A. I. l'Arciducessa Carolina : Zucchi : Maderno" Johann Peter Krafft studied under Füger in Vienna. Caroline Ferdinande of Austria was a member of the great Habsburg-Lorraine dynasty. Daughter of Francis I of Austria and Empress Marie Thérèse de Bourbon, she married Frederick-Augustus II, King of Saxony, in 1819. She was Napoleon's sister-in-law and died prematurely at the age of 31.
