LARGE POSTER - Lot 321
LARGE POSTER PLAZA DE TOROS DE CAUDERAN BORDEAUX 1899 Sunday July 16th Gran corrida de gala Mazzantini y Reverte Large canvas poster, with tax stamp 295 x 103 cm (Accidents, some missing parts) "Luis Mazzantini came to Bordeaux in 1899, a great temporada during which the Caudéran bullring was in competition with the La Benatte bullring (...) With Antonio Reverte at his side to fight Veragua toros, this cartel was worthy of the Madrid bullring. Reverte, who was ill, didn't do much, but Don Luis enjoyed a popular success with the fifth toro. Jean Brettes tells us: "As he slowly entered a matar, Don Luis, making the audience savour every beat of a slow-motion volapié, shouted a resounding "Vive la France! Mazzantini had in fact dedicated the death of this toro to the French flag and army. A fine diplomat, the maestro had a sense of timing". Mazzantini is considered by Auguste Lafront to be the greatest killer in the history of bullfighting. He is credited with 1,080 bullfights and 2,961 toros killed. In "Bordeaux, capitale tauromachique", A. Briscadieu. Ed. UBTF, p. 346-347
