Morocco leather with the coat of arms of Savalette de Magnanville [ROYAL ALMANAC] Royal Almanac, 1778. Paris, Le Breton. In-8. Contemporary fawn-colored Morocco leather, decorated ribbed spine with fleurs-de-lis between panels, missing top cap, gilt decoration on the covers featuring the central coat of arms with a sphinx and star, gilt roulette on the edges and interior, scuffs and normal wear, blue silk endpapers, gilt edges. Provenance: A volume bearing the coat of arms of Charles-Pierre Savalette de Magnanville (1713–1788), son of Charles, Lord of Bucheley, and farmer-general. He successively served as Attorney for the King at the Châtelet, Counselor to Parliament, Master of Requests, and then Intendant General of Tours. He succeeded his father as Keeper of the Royal Treasury and was appointed General Treasurer of the Extraordinary War Fund (OHR 2330). Paper vignette “A la Teste d’or (Paris, 1756)” mounted in mirror image on the title page.
