Long-grained morocco - Lot 37
Long-grained morocco CERVANTES SAAVEDRA (Miguel de) The Story of the Admirable Don Quixote of La Mancha. Paris, Barbin; Amsterdam, Mortier, 1681–1696. 5 volumes, small in-12: 6f., 380pp. / 1f., 405pp. / 4f., 400pp. / 6f., 456pp. / 4f., 501pp., (2); illustrated with 41 separate plates (12/6/9/8/6), including 5 engraved half-titles and frontispieces. 19th-century red long-grain morocco, titles and volume numbers gilt on a ribbed spine, triple gilt fillets framing the covers, gilt fillets on the edges, interior scrolls, gilt edges. A very rare and beautiful French edition of Don Quixote translated by Filleau de Saint Martin. “Uncommon, it includes the complete Don Quixote by Cervantes. A lovely edition printed in Leiden by Hackius, which forms part of the Elzevirian collection. The fifth and final volume is that of the 6-volume edition of 1696 published by Pierre Mortier in Amsterdam (this fifth volume is sometimes added to this 4-volume edition of 1681, as is the case here).
