DEPARCIEUX (Antoine) New Treatises on Rectilinear and Spherical Trigonometry, Demonstrated by a New Method That Is Easier Than the One Used Until Now, Accompanied by Tables of Sines, tangents, and secants in real parts, logarithms of natural numbers from one to twenty thousand, and logarithms of sine and tangent values, arranged in the most natural and convenient order. A work useful to those who wish to study astronomy, geography, navigation, and other branches of mathematics pertaining to solid geometry. With a treatise on gnomonics, in which the calculations of both branches of trigonometry are applied to the construction of sundials, followed by a table of hour angles for horizontal and vertical sundials. Paris, Guérin, 1741. In-4; illustrated with 17 fold-out plates at the end depicting sundials. Contemporary marbled fawn calfskin, decorated ribbed spine, red title label, damage to the top cap, triple blind-stamped fillet framing the covers, double gilt fillet on the edges, normal wear and tear, red edges. Rare first edition. The author became a maker of school sundials and soon established a solid reputation.
