[LA CHAU (Géraud de) - LE BLOND (Gaspard Michel)] Description of the Principal Engraved Stones in the Collection of His Serene Highness the Duke of Orléans, First Prince of the Blood. Paris: La Chau; Le Blond; Pissot, 1780–84. 2 folio volumes; illustrated with an allegorical frontispiece by COCHIN, engraved by A. de Saint-Aubin, fleurons, vignettes, and 179 plates of engravings by Saint-Aubin [97 + 78 bis, 35 and 39 bis and ter (Volume 1) / 76 + 2 bis; plate 51 misplaced (Volume 2)], and with end-piece illustrations. Printed on fine paper. Marbled fawn calfskin of the period, ornate ribbed spine, black title and volume number labels, minor damage to the cap bands, triple gilt fillets framing the covers, normal wear and scuffs, double fillets on the spine over the cut edges. This copy is missing the 7 plates of Spintrian medals (tokens used to pay prostitutes or for admission to brothels), which are often missing.
