[BOOK OF CELEBRATIONS - PARIS] Description of the celebrations held by the City of Paris on the occasion of the marriage of Madame Louise-Elisabeth of France to Dom Philippe, Infante and Grand Admiral of Spain, on the twenty-ninth and thirtieth of August, 1739. Paris, Le Mercier, 1740. In-quarto: 22 pp., illustrated with a vignette of the coat of arms of Paris on the title page, engraved by Soubeyran after Bouchardon; a banner depicting the joust that took place on the Seine, drawn and engraved by Rigaud, 2 initial letters, and 13 plates, most of which were drawn and engraved by BLONDEL (including 8 double plates). Contemporary red morocco leather, decorated ribbed spine, fleur-de-lis motifs between panels, gilded lace framing the covers, fleurs-de-lis in the spandrels, the coat of arms of the City of Paris stamped in the center, a dark, angular stain in the lower central portion, gilded roulette on the edges, gilded interior lace, normal wear and tear, a tear on the back cover, gilt edges. One of the most beautiful commemorative books of the 18th century. A magnificent, unique edition of the commemorative book dedicated to the marriage by proxy of Élisabeth of France, the eldest daughter of Louis XV (aged 12), and Philippe of Bourbon, the second son of Philip V of Spain, on August 26, 1739 (Cohen 288).
