ROUSSEAU (Jean-Jacques) Discourse on the Origin and Foundations of Inequality Among Men. Amsterdam, Rey, 1755. In-8: LXX, 1f., 262pp., (1f. errata); allegorical frontispiece (by EISEN) and vignette on title page (by FOKKE). Copy with full margins. ½ vellum back cover with corners, title label on chocolate-colored paper. First edition with errata. The frontispiece engraved by EISEN is properly signed, engraved by SORNIQUE, and bears the caption “He returns to his equals”; the author’s first name is spelled “Jean Jaques” at the end of the dedication, and the last page begins with the words “cune différence des méchans,” before the errata sheet and note to the bookbinder; not to mention the ink accent on page 11 (conformé, line 16).
