Paris, Rapet & Cie, 1817–19. 18 in-8 volumes and 2 volumes of plates, defined as follows: Buffon: * Volume 1: Theory of the Earth (plate of the Old World) / * Volume 2: Epochs of Nature (4 plates, including 2 fold-outs) / * Volume 3: Minerals / * Volume 4: Memoirs on Plants (4 plates) / * Volume 5: History of Man / * Volumes 6–8: Quadrupeds / * Volumes 9–12: Birds / * Volume 13: Supplement. Lacépède: * Volume 1: Oviparous Quadrupeds / * Volumes 2–5: Fishes. Plates: * A large volume containing 320 plates: Buffon [79 plates for quadrupeds, 126 plates for birds] - Lacépède [22 plates (Volume 1: snakes and lizards), 24–24–22–23 (Volumes 2–5: fish)] - * Volume 13 (supplement): 12 plates - * Plate volume: plates 1, 2, and 3 (Volume 1), plates 6 through 11 (Volume 2), and plate 12 (Volume 4). Some of these plates are also included in volumes 1 through 5. ½ period light-colored calfskin, smooth spines with decorative embellishments, red title, genre, and volume number labels, slight scuffing on the covers, marbled edges. A beautiful copy in excellent condition.
