Morocco leather binding by Cretté LE SAGE (Alain-René) - [BELTZ (Robert)] The Lame Devil. Illustrations by Robert BELTZ, woodcuts in color by Théo SCHMIED. Paris, Blaizot, 1945. A substantial large quarto volume; illustrated with a frontispiece, 21 large vignettes (one at the beginning of each chapter), and numerous tailpieces and initials, all in color. The usual brown halftones appear opposite the engravings. A print run of 220 numbered copies on Lana vellum; one of the 25 copies containing a black-and-white suite of the illustrations on China paper. Cream morocco binding signed “CRETTÉ succ.” by Marius MICHEL, beautiful geometric design with mosaic-like beige, red, and black panels forming a wide frieze framing a set of gilded rays in the central section, gilt edges, with a ½ red morocco slipcase and a sheathed case.
