Hunting - Morocco leather bound by Cretté - Lot 228
Hunting - Morocco leather bound by Cretté REILLE (Karl), Baron Contemporary French Hunting. Paris, Le Goupy, 1914. Large in-4 volume; illustrated with color and bistre engravings, including 32 full-page color plates by the author. Limited edition of 600 numbered copies (IUA). Beautiful original watercolor by the author depicting a pack of hounds chasing a hare, with a horseman playing a horn in the background (signed). English green morocco leather bound, signed “CRETTÉ, successor to Marius MICHEL,” smooth spine with decorative motifs of diamonds featuring horns and hares, green fillets and gold bands as dividers, double endpapers—one of brown suede-like material, the other of handmade paper—front endpaper with a fabric braid border, gilt edges, half-morocco slipcase with overlapping cover, and protective slipcase. First edition of this superb volume, which presents the various hunting parties classified by hunting region. “A sought-after volume that is becoming increasingly rare” (Thiébaud, 772).
