Russia - Saint Petersburg [SAINT PETERSBURG - PLUCHART (Alexandre)] Memories of Saint Petersburg. A collection of 38 lithographs depicting national subjects, city carriages, and travel scenes, drawn by various artists. Saint Petersburg, Pluchart, 1825. Oblong quarto: title page, table of distances including an engraved map of the surroundings of Saint Petersburg, index of the 38 lithographed drawings, and 38 lithographic plates in black by various artists and lithographers, including A. Orlovskii, Aleksandrov, Swebach, and Kollmann. Very white paper despite a few scattered small pinholes in places. Contemporary ½ red long-grain shagreen with small corners, leather missing at the caps, rubbing, blue cardboard covers soiled and rubbed, round title label on the top cover reading “Souvenir de Saint-Pétersbourg. Costumes Russes 1823.” A rare and beautiful collection of lithographs depicting scenes of daily life and transportation in Saint Petersburg in the early 19th century. A true incunabulum of lithography. Alexandre Pluchart was a printer, lithographer, painter, and publisher in Saint Petersburg during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The paper is white, despite a few scattered small pinholes. ½ of the long-grained red shagreen of the period with slightly rounded corners, leather slits at headwear level, scuffing, and soiled and worn blue cardboard covers. A round title label on the front cover reads: “Souvenir from St. Petersburg. Russian Costumes of 1823.” A rare and beautiful collection of lithographs depicting scenes from everyday life and transportation in St. Petersburg in the early 19th century. A true incunabulum of lithography. Alexander Plyushar was a printer, lithographer, artist, and publisher in St. Petersburg in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
