[Treatise on the Soul, a Discussion on the Nature and Properties of the Soul. The first chapter sets forth the nature and types of souls]. (Circa 1640–50). Quarto, approximately 650 pages, 25 to 6 lines per page, fine handwriting in light ink. At the end of the volume, a printed fold-out placard titled “Celessimi protoirincipis Henrici Borbonii felici memoriae.... Conclusiones ex universa philosophica...” (followed by various articles). At the top of the document, an engraved portrait of Henri de Bourbon. Contemporary fawn sheepskin, ribbed spine, gilt title and small fleurons, double fillet framing the covers, scuffing, scabs, and signs of wear; binding is weak. A manuscript on nature and human nature that may be related to Aristotle’s work “Tractatus de anima...”. The work was likely written between 1550 and 1629. Included is a second manuscript titled “Superscriptions,” listing a series of various forms of address used for prominent figures, with variations depending on their titles or positions. In-4, written in black ink, text framed. Stiff antique vellum, handwritten title on the top cover, leather missing on the spine. Provenance: printed bookplate by De Simony.
