Morocco leather binding signed Bernasconi - Lot 294
Morocco leather binding signed Bernasconi HEREDIA (José-Maria de) Les Trophées. Paris, Lemerre, 1893 (A.I. Dec. 29, 92). In-8. Title in red and black. Copy on fine paper. This copy contains 4 signed autograph letters (ranging from one to four pages in-8) and a calling card. 1/2 burgundy morocco with filleted corners, signed BERNASCONI; decorated ribbed spine; publisher’s cover preserved; gilt head. Excellent condition. First commercial edition. The “Originale,” identical but with the title in black, appeared a month earlier, with a print run of 10 copies that were presented to members of the Académie Française. Heredia was drawn to poetry through reading Leconte de Lisle. These “Trophées” are the only collection of verse he ever published. “What sets him apart,” says J. Lemaître, “is his pursuit of extreme precision within extreme splendor.”
