Leather-bound edition signed by Carayon MÉRIMÉE (Prosper) *La Chambre Bleue*. A short story dedicated to Madame de La Rhune. Illustrated with 61 watercolors based on works by Eugène COURBOIN. Paris, Conquet, Carteret & Cie, 1902. In-4; numerous color illustrations, including 8 fold-outs. Contributor’s copy, on Japanese paper (uncollated). 1/2 blue morocco with Bradel-style filleted corners signed CARAYON, title and gilt fillets on a smooth spine, original publisher’s cover preserved, untrimmed. Good condition. The first edition was printed in Biarritz in 1866 in a run of only three copies. This short story is dedicated to Empress Eugénie, referred to here by the name of a peak in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques (La Rhune), where the author had gone on an excursion with the imperial court.
