Béarn - Lescar - Lot 389
Béarn - Lescar The Lescar Breviary of 1541, reprinted with an introduction and notes on our ancient local liturgies. Pau, Ribaut; Paris, Picard, 1891. Large quarto. Printed in red and black with framed texts, a few illustrations, and coats of arms within the text. ½ burgundy chagrin with filleted corners, decorated ribbed spine, gilt head. The Bayonne Missal, published by the same publisher, had a print run of 265 copies (including 15 on Holland paper); it is possible that this volume, although published earlier and without a stated print run, was produced in the same quantity. Facsimile edition of the Latin breviary. The extensive preface, of undoubted historical interest, could be the subject of a book in its own right (Barbe 276).
