FROSSARD (Émilien Benoît Daniel), pastor - Lot 436
FROSSARD (Émilien Benoît Daniel), pastor 4 sheets of pen-and-ink lithographs printed in 3 tones, intended to be mounted by the pastor in the unique works he produced himself upon request. We are familiar with this model from the rare “Bagnères” album, which we have had the honor of presenting twice at public auction in the past. Of particular note is the large plate depicting Gavarnie. It was long after the publication of the “Tableau Pittoresque,” in the 1860s, that the pastor—always in search of economical reproduction methods—discovered this three-plate lithographic process, which, when superimposed, gives the impression of five or six colors.
