A superb pair of flintlock pistols, with square-bore barrels tapering to a 340 mm round bore, signature on the upper square section (faded, illegible), round-bodied lock plate, 130 mm, edged with a fillet and engraved with foliage, swan-neck hammer engraved in the same style, faceted pan with spark guard and pan cover spring bent forward, trigger with coiled tail under an engraved brass trigger guard, carved stock with a richly chiseled thumb piece, large chiseled brass pommel with two long straps, front guard with astragal reinforcement and simulated rod, hammers locked in the folded position, signs of wear, BE-TBE, length 535 mm, fine Ottoman Empire/Balkan craftsmanship circa 1830, category D § e.
