Beautiful National Guard officer's shako, with a cardboard crown covered in black taupe velvet, topped with silver lizard-patterned braid, a crown and visor made of black patent leather, a silver-plated brass 1837-model cock-of-the-rock badge, a metal tricolor cockade, chinstraps with simulated scales, a daffodil-yellow wool pompon with a tassel, a leather interior with nine wolf teeth, and at the base of the crown a superb label from the hatmaker “TURRIN & Cie, 15 Rue du Dôme, Strasbourg,” signs of wear, worn, France, July Monarchy period. Inside the cap is a handwritten label on cardboard: “Chacot of the Count de Chassepot de Chapelaine, purchased at auction on August 1, 1912, L. Grange.”
