VIOLLET le DUC (Eugène) - Lot 614
VIOLLET le DUC (Eugène) Trip to the Pyrenees 1833. Letters to his father and travel journal. Drawings, washes and watercolors by the author. Preface by Geneviève VIOLLET LE DUC. Lourdes, Les Amis du Musée Pyrénéen, 1972. In-4 oblong: X, 84pp. 1f. illustrated with 41 phototypescript plates, some on double page, most stenciled by the Art Nervet studio. Edition of 500 copies on Arches (n°113). Autograph letter from Pierre Caillau-Lamicq to Pr Labarère. Publisher's brown cloth, gilt title on spine and front cover, gilt head, laminated color illustrated dust jacket, in brown cloth slipcase. The iconography is exceptional, but the text is interesting both from a descriptive point of view and for its psychological study of the young painter-traveler at the height of the Romantic era. This work is a companion volume to DELACROIX, published in 1975, with which it shares the glory of being the finest modern work on the Pyrenees.
