BOAT MODEL Small fisherman's junk from central Vietnam called "Ghe Nang" of Tourane with 2 auric sails ("au Tiers" sails) made of lataniers braids (Ghe Nang usually have 2 main sails and a tap-ass sail which is missing here). 65x70x11cm + pendulum. Hull in woven bamboo coated with oleoresin from the basket boat technique (Ghe Thùng Chài) . Eye engraved and painted on the bulwarks. Complete with its tender ghe thùng Chài (these basket boats are particular to the port of Tourane) and its anchor also in bamboo with stone ballast. Rudder, daggerboard and pendulum rudder. 4 long and 2 medium oars for the tender and a small one for the dinghy, and a few bamboo braids to complete the fittings. The butt-flapping sail may be missing. A few "reassemblies" to provide, the whole in very good condition. Presentation on a modern wooden base [Farrère & Fouqueray Jonques et Sampans p.66-67 jonques en rade de Tourane (Danang)] [Pietri Voiles d'Indochine] [Mandragore2.net website]. This Jonque was brought back from Indochina by a naval officer after the war. It is said to have been made by convicts but probably not from the Tourane penitentiary which was one of the worst on earth!
