SOFT NOTE CASE English work from the end of the 18th century. It is in the shape of a truncated cone in pink quartz with a chiselled and pierced yellow gold setting with multiple decorations: under the base: a lyre and two trumpets in a cut-out surround, at the bottom: a tree, two sheep, an altar and a young man sitting with his dog, in the upper part of the lower part : foliage garlands, on the lid: foliage garlands and shells, on top of the lid: a flower basket and gardening attributes. The lid is encircled with the enamelled motto "Il faut aimer pour être aimé" in gold capital letters on a white background between two friezes of pearls. Height: 13.2 cm - Weight: 116.5 g. Hallmark: charençon in an oval struck twice (introduced in France in 1864 for imported works. Frayed with white enamel. This type of case can be found in the Rothschild collections at the Waddesdon Manor, the Cognacq Jay Museum and the Louvre. It is made of hard stone decorated with gold mesh and a motto enamelled on a white background in French. They can be found in the form of a needle case, spectacle case or souvenir case. Serge Grandjean noted in 1981 that this kind of object is attributed to England in the years 1760-1770. A souvenir case of the same make went on sale at Artcurial on 15 October 2015.
