Musty smell. Contemporary bradel boards, rubbed, title and endpapers missing. Modest binding, as is. First edition. The first 9 volumes printed in 1780; without the last three volumes published after the Revolution, as often (volumes X to XII were published in 1797 (not present here)). Precious work illustrating the discoveries of the excavations of Herculaneum, begun around 1738, with engravings by François Anne David and text by Sylvain Maréchal.
