First edition of this curious physiological and mystical treatise on the physiognomy and beauty of women (lines, expression, complexion, hair, etc.); the iconography consists of 28 copper engravings showing female faces and busts, sometimes set alongside animal heads, as well as a few animal heads (camel, birds, lion, dog and horse...) Structured as a commentary on the Song of Songs, but also conceived as an examination of female physiognomy and its correspondence with emotions, beauty and certain types of animals.
