BARTHOLIN (Gaspar) Institutions Anatomiques augmentées & enrichies pour la seconde fois, tant des opinions & observations nouvelles des Modernes, dont la plus grande partie n'a jamais été mise en lumière, que de plusieurs figures en taille-douce Paris, Henault, 1647. In-4 : 8f. (including engraved title and portrait of Thomas Bartholin), 656pp, 19f. (table) ; illustrated with 62 plates (including folding) and numerous figures in the text. 19th century red morocco in the Duseuil style, spine ribbed and decorated, double framed with triple fillet with gilt fleurons, gilt fillet on the edges, small inner garland, red edges. A good copy. The Bartholin family formed a real dynasty of doctors at the University of Copenhagen and was in contact with the most famous physicians of the time. Provenance: Printed bookplate of Dr Eugène Olivier (1881-1964), Doctor of Science and Associate Professor of Anatomy, elected a free member of the Academy of Surgery in 1953. A heraldist and philatelist, he assembled collections of stamps, postmarks, ex-libris and armorial bindings. He is the co-author of a 30-volume Manuel de l'amateur des reliures armoriées françaises.
