(including portrait of the author), 105 large plates with explanatory leaves. Contemporary speckled calf in the style of Duseuil, spine ribbed and ornamented, skilfully restored (the original titles and irons have been repositioned on the restored spine), large double garland framed on the boards, one of which with fleurons in spandrels, beautiful diamond-shaped fleuron in the centre of the boards, metal corners for protection, endpapers replaced. Rare first edition. Superb work of anatomy containing the superb plates drawn and engraved by Gérard de Lairesse, friend of Rembrandt, who introduces the art of the painter in the anatomical description. Bildoo was the personal physician of William, Prince of Orange. This spectacular treatise on anatomy was plagiarized many times, notably by the Englishman William Cowper in his work "Anatomy of the Human Bodies" (1698).
