LEBERT (Hermann) Traité d'Anatomie Pathologique générale et spéciale, ou Description et Iconographie Pathologique des altérations morbides tant liquides que solides observées dans le corps humain. Paris ; London ; New York ; Madrid, Baillière & fils, 1857-61. 4 volumes in-folio, including 2 atlases of plates : 2f., II, 760pp. (text 1) / 3f. 733pp. (text 2) / 1f., 46pp. and 94 plates numbered I to XCIV(atlas 1) / 1f., 44pp. and 116 plates numbered XCV to CC (atlas 2). A total of 200 plates engraved in colour after Pierre Lackerbauer. Paper quite white, good margins, light banding at head of text volumes; superb plates in excellent condition, colors quite fresh. ½ modern brown chagrin, gilt titles and fillets on smooth spines. "The superb hand-colored copperplate engravings of macro and micropathology in this work are among the finest ever published" (Garrison & Morton). Lebert (1813-78) was among the first to use the microscope in pathological anatomy and thus made a decisive contribution to pathology and clinical medicine.
