MARTIN (Jean) - HIPPOCRATE Ioannis Martini Doctoris medici Parisiensis, professoris Regii, et Mariae Medicae Christianissimae Reginae Archiatri, Commentarius in librum Hippocratis de Aere, Aquis et Locis. Paris, Petrum Menard, 1660. In-4 : 5f, 4pp, 164pp, 7f. (index). Spotting. Contemporary fawn basane spine, caissons decorated with a fleur-de-lys pattern, large gilt garland around the boards with full fleur-de-lys pattern inside, gilt super libris in oval medallion of the Collegium Marchium. Greek text with Latin translation in juxtaposition followed by important comments. Superb binding of the University College of La Marche founded after 1362 in the former premises of the college of Constantinople by Jean de La Marche and, after his death, by his nephew Guillaume. It was transferred in 1420 to the mountain of Sainte-Geneviève and expanded by Beuvin de Winville, the executor of the latter's will. It was closed in 1790. Its buildings were given to the University in 1808, transformed into barracks in 1830, and then demolished in 1855 when the Rue des Écoles was built.
