VIDE (Guy) [or Vidius (Vidus)] Vidi Vidii... - Lot 935 - Briscadieu
VIDE (Guy) [or Vidius (Vidus)] Vidi Vidii Florentini de Anatome Coproris Humani libri VII.Venice, Giunta, 1611. In folio : 7f. (engraved title and table), 1fb, 342pp; illustrated with LXVIII plates on wood in the pagination (one plate repositioned later on laid paper). Marginal ink stain in central part of last 70 pages. A good copy. ½ calf later than the edition, red title-piece on spine, vat-paper boards. Guido Guidi (1509-1569) was an Italian physician of the Renaissance who served as first physician to King Francis I. This seven-book treatise on anatomy (composed around 1560), published posthumously in 1611, describes an octagonal wooden anatomical amphitheatre that probably never existed. It is likely that the plates were prepared by Valesio and Doino, engravers of the title page (Waller 3816). Provenance: Printed bookplate E. Malan de Merindol.
