ROBESPIERRE (Maximilien) Autograph note... - Lot 294 - Briscadieu
ROBESPIERRE (Maximilien) Autograph note giving permission to citizen Lavalette (André, Jean) to visit his sister Jeanne ci-devant de Lavalette in the Madelonnettes prison. This permission extends only to him - 17 prairial - Robespierre. Format 16x12 cm, illegible wet stamp, in a blackened wood and stucco frame. Founded in 1620, located in rue des Fontaines, the Madelonnettes house welcomed repentant girls. Closed in 1790, it was turned into a prison in 1793, then into a women's prison in 1794. The building was demolished in 1868 for the construction of the Rue de Turbigo. Robespierre's note was therefore written between 1793 and July 1794, the month of his execution.
