Copy containing many plates out of text, the portrait of Napoleon I (engraved with etching) and the map in colours. The title pages of volumes I-III under the date of 1841. Copy containing a second suite of woodcuts with each plate in contemporary colours (for the volumes "les Français" volumes 1 to 5). Missing the large folding map. Small spotting in places. A good copy. ½ green chagrin with corners, gilt titles on slightly sunned spine, publication covers preserved, with tables of engravings in fine. A good copy. Copies containing the series of types in black and in colour are highly sought after. Well complete with the Prism (now rare because offered as a bonus to subscribers), the plates, the portrait of Napoleon I (etched). The title pages of volumes I-III under the date of 1841. "This publication is the most important of the Curmer editions", containing unpublished texts by Balzac, Janin, Soulié, Nodier, Gautier, Karr, Méry, Cormerin, Arlincourt, la Bédolière, Romay Paul de Kock, Lavallé, etc., and very many in-text black figures by Daumier, Daubigny, Gavarni, Johannot, Grandville, Monnier, etc. Le Prisme is decorated with vignettes in the text, by the same artists. Provenance : Ex-libris Jacob Morel-Journel - Lyon - 1914. The Morel-Journel family is a French family of the Lyon bourgeoisie, active in particular in the silk trade since the 19th century. The family business, Maison Morel-Journel, founded in 1811, was the last silk merchant still active in France at the beginning of the 21st century (Wikipedia).
