EUGÈNE PRINTZ (1879-1948) OF AN IMPORTANT DECORATION MADE BY EUGÈNE PRINTZ IN THE 1930S FOR THE VILLA OF MR X. IN CASABLANCA (MOROCCO) "Triangles and chevrons". Exceptional and very important carpet of approximately 33,5 m2 in 3 parts; that of the center presents two jointed borders, those of the ends are each completed of a border with fringes and a jointed one. Wool in knotted stitch; the title motifs are treated in turquoise and beige on a chocolate background. Circa 1932-35. One of the rugs monogrammed E. P. in the weft. Dimensions and condition of each rug: - 271 x 466.5 cm; approximately 12.6 m2 Condition: used, stains and wear, two parts worn down to the weft, one towards the monogram and the other at the left side border - 275 x 362.5 cm; about 10 m2 Used condition, stains and wear. - 329 x 362.5 cm; approximately 11.9 m2 Used condition, stains and wear. Provenance: - From a very important decoration made by Eugène Printz in the 1930s for the villa of Mr. X. in Casablanca (Morocco). Also from this set a console table (or desk), of a model identical to the one kept at the Palais de la Porte Dorée (Maréchal Lyautey's oval salon), sold on May 16, 2017 by Tajan in Paris (lot 108), a lacquer panel by Jean Dunand sold, also by Tajan in Paris, on March 19, 2014 (lot 87) and a cabinet by Jules Leleu sold on February 29, 2020 by Me Briscadieu in Bordeaux (lot 145). - Private collection, France. Archive: The copy of an old photograph (Studio L. Demeure in Casablanca) taken in situ in the villa of Mr. X. in Casablanca (Morocco) on which our carpet appears will be given to the buyer. Also on this picture, a table-console (or desk), of a model identical to the one kept at the Palais de la Porte Dorée (Maréchal Lyautey's oval salon), sold on May 16, 2017 by Tajan in Paris (lot 108), a cabinet by Jules Leleu sold on February 29, 2020 by Me Briscadieu in Bordeaux (lot 145) and the circular mirror by Eugène Printz presented in today's auction.
