Contemporary marbled fawn calf, spine ribbed and decorated, red title-pieces, 3 headpieces wiped off, gilt roulettes on the edges, corners dull, red edges. Charles d'Aviler (or Daviler), a French architect considered as one of the main promoters of the vignolesque canon. He developed it by proposing variations of motifs to give more flexibility and expressiveness to the rigid system of the five orders. For a long time considered as the best work of this kind that we had in France.
