JALIGNY (Guillaume de) Histoire de Charles VIII, Roy de France, et des choses mémorables advenües de son règne depuis l'an 1483 jusques à 1498. Paris, Pacard, 1617. In-4 : 4f, 391 pp, 14f. Old vellum of the time, handwritten title on spine, fastened with skin ties, (2 ties missing). First edition given by Théodore Godefroy. Guillaume de Jaligny was the secretary of the duke Pierre II of Bourbon. The reign of Charles VIII was marked by the war against Italy (1494-97). Appointed king of Naples in 1494, he conquered Florence and Rome and it was at this time that the League of Venice was formed, an alliance of Italian states against France.
