Contemporary tan granite calf, spine ribbed and decorated, blond title-pieces, gilt roulette on the edges, red edges. Rare 3rd edition in part original, and corrected by the author. It contains two errata and changes made on the original edition of 1748, "It is more correct than the original edition, published in 1748. It is, in a way, the true original edition given by the author himself. It is in fact a Lyon edition printed by Aimé Delaroche for the booksellers Pierre and Benoît Duplain. L'Esprit des Loix was the object of 22 different editions and forgeries in the space of one year. Montesquieu's Essay will greatly influence the drafters of the Constitution of the United States of America, but also of the French Constitution, notably the separation of the three powers: executive, legislative, judicial.
