History of Bordeaux DEVIENNE (Charles Jean-Baptiste d'Agneaux, Dom) History of the City of Bordeaux, containing the civil events & the life of several famous men. Bordeaux, Paris, 1771. In-4; frontispiece by C.P. MARILLIER engraved by Simonet, heraldic vignette at the head of the dedicatory epistle to the Duke of Richelieu and 5 plates out of text including a map of Bordeaux and portraits of MONTAIGNE and MONTESQUIEU. Contemporary marbled fawn basane, spine ribbed and decorated, red title, small lack of leather at the head of the cover, double fillet stamped in cold on the margins of the boards, double fillet gilt on the edges. First part, the only one published, "of a work that is said to be "the best" on the city of Bordeaux" (Quérard).
