ORLOFF (Count) - Lot 185
ORLOFF (Count) Voyage dans une partie de la France, ou lettres descriptives et historiques adressées à Me la Comtesse Sophie de Strogonoff. Paris, Bossange, 1824 (3 volumes). In-8 : 2f., 407pp. / 2f., 451pp. / 2f., 467pp. ½ modern black basane, smooth spines, old binding redone, old spines decorated with romantic irons, with gilt tomaisons and title mounted on the modern binding. Trace of old wetness on the lower corners of the last 100 pages of volume I. On the flyleaf, handwritten bill pasted in: "Vente de Castel-Novel (Baron Henry de Jouvenel)" (Brive, 1937). Sought-after and uncommon. Concerns more particularly the Center and the Southwest of France (the Pyrenees at the end of volume I and in volume II. Béarn, Bigorre and Comminges. Port de Vénasque). It is sometimes wrongly attributed to Amaury DUVAL, the editor of the Memoirs of Count ORLOFF. (Beraldi, Cent Ans aux Pyrénées, I, 143, 144) (Labarère, Biblio Pyr, 1116)
