STEIN (Gertrude) Autograph letter from Gertrude Stein to Julien Green. Rare missive of this feminist who was a catalyst in the development of literature and modern art. Gertrude Stein would like to introduce to Julien Green a fellow countryman, the grating American critic and journalist Woollcott. "... We are giving a tea party for Alexander Woollcott on the first of April, and we would like very much to have you come and meet him...". Header, address of her hotel at "27 rue de Fleurus" in Montparnasse, which became a center of artistic life, where, with her faithful companion Alice B. Toklas, she received the avant-garde of the whole world, qualified by G. S. of "Lost Generation". A long typed letter from Julien Green to Charles Stein, Gertrude's brother, dated June 17, 1944, is attached. One and a half page in-4, in English, announcing his visit and recalling some beautiful moments spent in their company. One page in-8 in English, in black ink, difficult to decipher. Attached is a long typescript note. Gertrude Stein is an American poet, writer, playwright and feminist. She spent most of her life in France and participated in the development of modern literature and art. Through her personal collection and her books, she contributed to the diffusion of cubism and more particularly of the work of Picasso, Matisse and Cézanne.
