Rare first edition of this historical and descriptive account of the Pacific coast of North America. One of the most important works on the Northwest Coast and Alaska, considered one of the twenty rarest books on California. Without the atlas (which contains a folding map and 25 plates). Duflot de Mofras was sent to the West Coast of the United States by the French government to evaluate the commercial potential. He left from Monterey and sailed up California and Oregon to Alaska (Sabin 21144).
