Jean-Antoine Nollet, known as Abbé Nollet, was a great popularizer of the physical sciences in the 18th century. Specializing in the study of electrical phenomena, he designed the first electroscopes and introduced the Leyden bottle to the French for the first time. He is considered a precursor of technical education.
