Bordeaux DEVIENNE (Dom Charles Jean-Baptiste d'Agneaux) Histoire de la Ville de Bordeaux, contenant les événements civils & la vie de plusieurs hommes célèbres. Bordeaux, Paris, 1771. Front. by C.P. MARILLIER, heraldic vignette at the head of the dedicatory epistle to the Duke of Richelieu and 5 plates t.p. including a plan of Bordeaux and portraits of MONTAIGNE and MONTESQUIEU. In-4: false title page, title page missing, allegorical frontispiece by MARILLIER, engraved by Simonet, three plans and portraits of Montaigne and Montesquieu. Minor dampstaining at the beginning of the volume. Contemporary fawn basane, spine ribbed and decorated, small headband accident, red title page, rubbing, double gilt fillet on edges, corners dull, marbled edges. First part, the only one published, "of a work said to be 'the best' on the city of Bordeaux" (Quérard).
